The beginnings of street art are unknown. We made a test, 9 people out of 10 think graffiti is born in the United States. Let's set the record straight : Urban Art has been created in France, in Paris, by Gérard Zlotykamien. Artworks of the very first graffiti artist are on sale on Bidtween by the Hôtel des ventes de la Vallée de Montmorency !
In the 60's, after one of his artist friend was censored, Zloty armed himself with his aerosol and started painting in the street for a complete freedom. He develops a unique type of artwork, with almost floating shapes, in zero gravity, on walls or fences he claims for himself. True to his art, more than 50 years after, Zloty still creates his famous characters, the "Ephémères" (for ephemeral), with several representations on auction.
Gérard Zlotykamien spray-painted on his suit and tie with his attaché case : he had a job and didn't need to sell his artworks for a living. He, then, stays true to his idea of an "Ephemeral" artwork, that sometimes only exists for a few hours, before concrete is poured, or cardboards are collected. Still today, Gérard Zlotykamien perceives his art as a process more than an artwork per se.
This online auction sale is a chance for Urban Art amateurs to buy artworks of the first ever street artist in the world, who, at 78, still devotes himself to his famous "Ephémères". Created between 1978 and 1980, these artworks are personal productions coming from his studio, that have never been supposed to be exhibited.
